Hello

China is all over the news at the moment, with pundits and politicians across the social and political spectrum giving their views about what's going on. Meanwhile, academics like me get criticised (sometimes rightly!) for spending all our time talking to other academics but staying out of public discussions. This is what prompted me to set up this website. Here, I will post short videos on current issues or historical background related to China. I'll also introduce the work of some of my colleagues. This website is for anyone who doesn't spend all of their time thinking and reading about China, but who is generally curious and would like to know more. I hope you'll find it thought provoking.

About me

I am a lecturer in China and Global Affairs at the Lau China Institute, King's College London. I research China’s agrarian question (how rural land is organised, who controls it and who gets to profit from it). I teach postgraduate courses on China and Globalisation, and China and Global Governance.
